Ice Rink / O2 development on Frogmore Street

The Bristol Civic Society and Christmas Steps Arts Quarter have submitted a response to the recent planning application to close the Ice Rink and to develop the site as a student residence over the existing O2, deploring the loss of the ice rink, and the fact that the redevelopment does little to redress the horrors of the 1960s planning, improve the public realm, or compensate for the loss of the rink.

This is an application that has implications for all Bristol residents so BCS and CSAQ have asked that other groups be asked whether they would like to support the response.

You can see the response on the Planning Online website using the link below.

If you wish to support it, please say so on the Comments page asap,
as the consultation period closes soon.

Proposed partial demolition of the former Bristol Entertainment Centre with redevelopment above the O2 Academy (to be retained) to provide 442 student bedrooms (Use Class Sui Generis), internal courtyard, extension at the ground floor to accommodate a cafe (Use Class A3), change of use of the existing car park to leisure use (Use Class D2), external alterations to the existing O2 Academy and improvements to the adjoining public footpath (including landscaping).
