Bristol adopted a Tall Buildings policy as a Supplementary Planning Document in 2005. The Local Plan (previously Core Strategy) confirms that the Tall Buildings SPD 1 will continue to be policy until it is reviewed.
“2.7 The relationship of the city with the surrounding topography, harbourside and green spaces has
greatly influenced the development of the city’s urban pattern and built form. However, post-war
reconstruction and particularly post-war tall buildings, largely failed to respect and understand
this relationship. Hence the need for clear policy guidance to steer future development.”
