Conservation Advisory Panel (CAP) was set up in 1979 to advise the Director of Planning & Development Services on applications for planning and/or listed building consent that would affect the character of conservation areas or listed buildings and on policy affecting these topics.

The panel comprises representatives from planning/conservation groups for some of the 33 Conservation Areas in Bristol, and from other organisations interested in Conservation, such as Avon Industrial Buildings Trust, Bristol Industrial Archeological Society, English Heritage, Bristol Visual and Environmental Group,Council for the preservation of Ancient Bristol, Georgian Society, Victorian Society, Landscape Institute and Bristol Civic Society.

CAP meets regularly to consider pre application and planning applications.

Conservation Officers, Urban Design officers and the Executive member may also attend the meeting.
