The Westbury on Trym Society
1 the Society was
founded in 1972
2 It has about 470 members currently
3 It has a constitution
4 It is a registered charity
5 Its chief interests have always beeen planning and amenities
6 It holds 7 regular open meetings a year with talks and an
official AGM
7 It holds other meetings on local needs-like saving a post
office for example-as occasion demands
8 Membership is open to anyone for £8 per year £5
concessions £15 corporate
9 We provide flowers in the spring and summer in the village
and collect money for them-no council help here!
10 We have just won gold in the best shopping district awards
from Bristol in BLoom, for the third year running
11 We saved the village hall from destruction 35 years ago
just after the Society was founded and it is now the jewel in our crown being
a beautiful piece of victorian gothic architecture-used by people from all over
Bristol for weddings as well as for all our local needs
12 We look after various green areas
13 The Village has a flower show every year
14 Members get three newsletters a year (Iam current editor
and compiler)
15 The committee is elected with members serving for three
years
16 I have this year formed a separate planning group because
our previous planning expert has left us after 13 years-it is to combine various
types of expertise
17 We are in regular contact with the planning dept.
18 WE saw off Sainsbury's four years ago when they wanted to
put an SM right next to the church on the old allotments-big campaign
19 We are just now establishing a Local produce market once
a month
20 Our monthly talks are open to all £2 at door-do come
along in November when we will have punch and mince pies and a talk on the Bristol
Blitz.
