The Bishopston Society

The Bishopston Society was established in 2002 by a group of residents under the threat of back garden development. The Society seeks to promote “high standards of planning and architecture in and around Bishopston, education in the geography, history, natural history and architecture of the area and aims to secure the preservation, protection, development and improvement of features of historic or public interest”.

The Society monitors and responds to local planning applications and appeals; while placing an emphasis on residents’ views, we also seek to achieve results which will enhance the environment. Other interests of our group have included play areas, traffic calming measures, noise, traffic and car parking, trees, graffiti and licensing. We also maintain close links with and support groups connected with local concerns such as the fate of the Bristol North Baths building.

The Society has an active committee with around 150 members. We hold two public meetings and publish two newsletters annually, one of which is delivered to several thousand households in our area (in the vicinity of the lower Gloucester Rd).
