Bristol Development Framework (BDF)

The Bristol Development Framework (BDF) will replace the Bristol Local Plan. This will happen over a period of time as the BDF is developed.

How will BDF replace Local Plan?

See How will BDF replace Local Plan?  page for details.

What's in a Local Development Framework?

Local Planning Authorities must prepare a Local Development Framework, which comprises a folder of Local Development Documents (LDDs) for delivering the Spatial Strategy for the area (as opposed to the old single plan covering the whole of the Authority’s area).

LDDs comprise

  • Development Plan Documents
  • Supplementary Planning Documents,
which expand polices set out in Development Plan Documents or provide additional detail
  • Statement of Community Involvement,
  • Local Development Scheme
which sets out the programme for the production of LDDs
  • Annual Monitoring Report.

In Bristol a Joint Waste Core Strategy is also included. This has been drawn up by the four councils in the West of England Partnership.

Consultation on the Site Allocations Development Plan Document (DPD) started in June 2010. The responses are still being collated and used to draft a revised Site Allocations map which was planned to be consulted on in Autumn 2011. However, because of the lack of decision on sites identified through the
Parks and Green Spaces Strategy: Area Green Space Plans
consultation the programme has slipped. It is hoped to restart the programme in January 2012.

This consultation was expected to lead to the publication of a Site Allocations DPD Options Document in May 2011 with the expectation that this would be adopted in May 2012. The programme has now slipped.

Full information on the sites, identified in the 'Call for Sites' in December 2008, is on the Bristol City Council website, including maps showing location of the sites and a full list of the sites with the proposed uses.
