Regional Policy: RSS

The objective of the Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) is to contribute to the achievement of sustainable development.

The RSS, incorporating a Regional Transport Strategy (RTS), provides a broad development strategy for the region for a 15 to 20 year period. The RSS also informs the preparation of Local Development Documents (LDDs), Local Transport Plans (LTPs) and regional and sub-regional strategies and programmes that have a bearing on land use activities.

South West Councils

Formerly the South West Regional Assembly (SWRA) is the statutory Regional Planning Body responsible for the monitoring and implementation of RSS and keeping regional planning matters under review.

The SWRA prepared, in partnership with regional stakeholders, a revised draft RSS and submitted its Draft Regional Spatial Strategy for the South West 2006 – 2026 to GOSW in 2006.
