CI and the Developer

What is 'Planning'?

'Planning' is about how we plan for, and make decisions about, the future of our cities, towns and countryside. It is the process of setting out the way in which development will happen in the future.

It is also called 'Spatial Planning'.

There are two main branches of planning in which the community can get involved in Bristol and through the NPN

Strategic Planning

This is about shaping the way development should happen in an area. It can cover the whole country, the South West region of the country, the city of Bristol, or a site within Bristol.

It also covers transport links which are necessary so that people can travel around to get to destinations such as work and leisure from or within their own communities.

Development Management

This is managing particular developments using the policies drawn up through the strategic planning process. This is usually done through the Planning Application process.
