Horfield ROSE

Horfield ROSE (Residents Opposed to Stadium Expansion) was formed in October 2006 following submission of large scale mixed use redevelopment proposals (06/03850/F) of regional significance on the Memorial Stadium site, and has over 600 members within a 2km radius of the site.

HorfieldROSE is not anti-sport, and includes some Bristol Rovers supporters! However, concerns have arisen over incomplete assessments of the environmental impacts. Impacts on accessiblity, local character and quality of life for residents, remain unaddressed in the reports within the proposals.

This is unwelcome in view of significant changes planned from what originated as a community sports facility to a 24/7 high density commercial destination.

Failure to engage the local community and other service providers through lack of proper consultation, despite the club's own promising Statement of Community Involvement, has served to compound frustration and cyncism felt by local residents

HorfieldROSE submitted a 44 point complaint to the council following concerns over the methods used to handle the case. The complaint was then submitted to the Ombudsman in Spring 2007, and his investigation is ongoing presently.
