Community at Heart

Community at Heart - delivering the Bristol New Deal for Communities programme.

In 2000 local residents and agencies formed a partnership and put together a successful bid for £50 million funding from the Government's New Deal for Communities programme. The bid was for regeneration of an area of east Bristol which includes the Dings, Redfield, Lawrence Hill and Barton Hill.

Community at Heart is the resident-led organisation set up to oversee the delivery of the programme. Alongside 12 locally elected resident Board members, the formal NDC Partnership also includes representatives from the key agencies and organisations working in the area.

Since 2000 Community at Heart has been making a range of improvements in the area, for example new and improved schools and houses, a healthy living centre and sports facilities and work will soon start on improving the main shopping street, Church Road. Community at Heart works with partners such as: local organisations; the Police; local schools; the health service and Bristol City Council. Together they work to improve the environment, housing, health, safety, education and work opportunities for everyone in the area.

Local residents can get involved in a variety of different ways, please visit Community at Heart's website to find out more.

The vision
The Community at Heart vision is to create a strong responsible community that has the ability to understand, engage and overcome its problems, enabling residents to build a safe environment that fulfils local needs, inspires and provides opportunities for all.
