A new strategic plan for the West of England

February 9, 2015

The four authorities of Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol City, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Councils are preparing a new planning strategy for the West of England.

The new plan, the Joint Strategic Planning Strategy, will identify the number of new homes and jobs to be planned for in the West of England between 2016 and 2036. It will establish how new homes and employment floorspace will be distributed across the four authorities, identifying broad locations to accommodate the new development requirements. The Joint Strategic Planning Strategy will also inform the four authorities’ future Local Plans which will deal with detailed policy development and allocations.

A document has been produced which sets out the intended scope and process for preparing the Joint Strategic Planning Strategy. Comments are welcomed and should be sent to the West of England Office:

  • Email: planning@westofengland.org or
  • Post: Joint Strategic Planning Strategy, West of England Office, Engine Shed, Station Approach, Temple Meads, Bristol, BS1 6QH.

The closing date for comments is 6th March 2015.

Old Market Quarter plan submitted- comments invited until 23rd March 2015

February 9, 2015
Dear Sir/Madam
I am writing to inform you that the Old Market Quarter Neighbourhood Development Plan has been formally submitted to Bristol City Council by the Old Market Quarter Neighbourhood Development Forum and to invite you to make comments on the document.
Neighbourhood Development Plans are planning policy documents prepared by local communities. Before the Old Market Quarter Neighbourhood Development Plan can become a statutory planning document, it must be published for consultation and passed to an independent examiner for scrutiny. If successful at examination, the Neighbourhood Development Plan will proceed to a local referendum to decide whether it should become part of the development plan for Bristol and be used alongside the Bristol Local Plan to determine planning applications in the Old Market Quarter.
The local community and stakeholders have already been involved in the preparation of the plan, but there is now a further opportunity for you to comment and have your views passed to the examiner for consideration. Representations can be made for a six-week period from Monday 9th February 2015 to Monday 23rd March 2015. Please be aware that all representations will be publicly available.
The deadline for representations is Monday 23rd March 2015. Representations should be sent to:
·       By e-mail: blp@bristol.gov.uk
·       By post: Strategic City Planning Team (Brunel/2nd Floor/Brunel Wing), Bristol City Council, PO Box 3176, BS3 9FS
In making your representation, please let us know whether you would like to be notified of the final decision on the Neighbourhood Development Plan.
The proposed Neighbourhood Development Plan, along with details of the consultation undertaken to date and other supporting information, is available to download on the council’s web site (http://www.bristol.gov.uk/neighbourhoodplanning/). Copies are also available to inspect in the foyer of Brunel House, St. George’s Road, Bristol BS1 5UY (Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm).
If you no longer wish to be contacted please email or telephone us (blp@bristol.gov.uk / 0117 903 6511) and we will remove you from our consultation database.
Please call the Strategic City Planning team on 0117 903 6725 with any questions.
